Eyewear Design
I Love Ugly started as an art project for founder and Creative Director, Valentin Ozich. With his goal to create the best men’s streetwear brand in the world, Ozich and his Auckland based team have grown from humble beginnings into a globally recognised brand.
Following on from sold-out collaborations with brands such as Onitsuka Tiger and JanSport, I Love Ugly commissioned Bailey Nelson to help them bring a sunglasses collection to life.
I oversaw the design direction to ensure that the range blended I Love Ugly’s forward thinking cues with Bailey Nelson’s timeless approach to eyewear. Three shapes were created — a bold acetate style hand crafted from thick acetate, a flat top combination model that referenced 90’s hip hop styling, and a highly flexible metal frame laser cut from 0.8mm Japanese beta titanium.
